ABOUT josue
As a biracial Mexican American, I struggled with navigating questions about racial identity, internalized racism, lack of belonging in groups and relationships, and managing different sets of cultural expectations. I’m passionate about working with clients who experience similar challenges. I most often work with people on integrating various, and at times conflicting, parts of their identity, with managing symptoms of anxiety or depression that interfere with daily functioning, and with improving relationships through individual and couples counseling. I enjoy working with individuals of any gender identity, however, I have most experience working with a variety of issues and goals involving masculinity and male identity.
My work focuses on creating meaning and promoting life satisfaction in my clients’ lives. My priority is to create a safe space for you by respecting your personhood and your unique intersectionality, as well as focusing on your goals and needs. I work to provide a deeper understanding of how rigid and disruptive patterns of thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships are impacted by contextual and cultural factors. I value balancing short-term, solution focused needs with long-term, insight-oriented therapy to ensure that you will be able to make the changes you want to be to live the life that is most meaningful and satisfying to you.
