ABOUT Annahita
Welcome, I’m Annahita! I identify as a mixed Iranian and English, fat, queer, non-binary, second generation American. Coming to counseling takes courage, and I think of it as a radical way to invest in caring for yourself, healing yourself and growing. Knowing how vulnerable it can feel to open up to someone new, I strive to meet you with caring, compassion and respect. I work to create a non-judgmental atmosphere where, together, we can explore your feelings, make sense of your experiences and help you move towards your goals. I love to work with people of color, children of immigrants, people in larger bodies and people who identify as LGBTQIA2S+ from a culturally sensitive lens, as well as anyone looking to be supported in growth and healing who is experiencing challenges.
I aim to bring deep caring and understanding into my work, therefore my approach to therapy is humanistic, culturally sensitive, fat liberationist, anti-racist, anti-fatphobic, anti-diet and utilizes an intersectional feminist lens. I will listen to you with care, work to understand your unique human experience, and build a supportive relationship with you to help you thrive. Some of the techniques which I incorporate into therapy include - Self-Compassion, Body Trust® which is a radically liberatory way to accept ourselves and our bodies, and EMDR which helps to heal past trauma, make movement when feeling stuck and shift limiting beliefs to improve self-esteem. I believe that by increasing our self-compassion and compassion towards others, we can lead more fulfilling lives as we navigate the complex challenges and pressures of society.
